Cat Mellis
Our realities are not static things, they are coloured by shifting memories of the past and moulded around desires we have for our future that are often based on imperfect notions of self and what our reality is and could be. The only time I am absolutely sure that I know something about myself that is immutable is when I am in the presence of a warm turquoise ocean.
As a young teen I learnt to scuba dive in the Persian Gulf, when everything else is wrong being underwater is always right, a reminder there is good and still wonders in the world. So despite being in landlocked Cambridge my work is about water, light, colour and travelling in the mind to that place. I am a Screen printer, producing Monoprints. I did my degree in Fine Art, specialising in painting. However having discovered that through screens I could combine brilliant colours with aspects of draughtsmanship I’ve never looked back. I’ve had my studio at St.Barnabas Press where I have been for over decade now.
