Tom Gaskell
Tom Gaskell makes contemporary glass artworks, ornaments and tableware. His work varies from realistic representations of the natural world – especially birds – to abstract and interpretive. He gives the pieces depth – many have a 3D form – and personality. He takes inspiration from the world around him and from the colours and shapes found within the glass.
Tom uses glass sheets, granules, powders and enamels. He uses fusing and slumping techniques, where glass pieces are cut, assembled and embellished then melted together in a kiln at a high temperature to form a single piece; this is often repeated several times.
